Abstract

Background: BMI measurements can easily reflect any changes in the lipid concentration in the human body. Objectives: To determine relationship of serum lipids with body mass index among students of Zabeed Education Collage, Hudaiadah University, Yemen.

Materials and Methods: This study was conducted from May 2014 to December 2014, 210 male and female students aged 18-35 years of Zabeed Education College of Hudaidh participated in the study. Anthropometric measurements including weight, height, waist and hip circumferences were measured. Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated. Fasting blood sugar and lipid profile including total cholesterol (TC), Low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) and triglycerides (TG) were estimated. Socio-demographic data were collected from a questionnaire.

Results: BMI of studied population ranged from 18.5 to 40 with mean value of 22.605 ± 4.4225. The WC was 30.499± 4.725. Mean value of blood pressure was 118±15.141, 80. 92±12.135. Mean value of TC. LDL, HDL, and TG were 160.05 ± 31.893 mg/dl, 92.288±28.7497, 47.550±12.2552, and 120.18±46.573 respectively. TC. TG and LDL were significantly among obese students in which found (179.78 ± 40.180 mmol/l; p=0.04), (153.56± 38.872; p=0.02) and (101.333±63.2166; p=0.018) respectively. Moreover systolic and diastolic blood pressure were highly significantly with p value were 0.015 and 0.001 respectively. However Mean HDL and FBS did not differ significantly among different groups.

Conclusion: BMI has a positive correlation with TC, TG, LDL, systolic and diastolic blood pressure whereas there was no correlation with HDL and FBS.

Abstract

Pseudomonas aeruginosais an opportunistic pathogen that causes a variety of infections in patients with weak immune systems. A total of 200 Clinical isolates were collected from patient infected with ear, wound and burn infection during the period from April 2010 to September 2010. Each specimen was cultured for the isolation of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antibiotic sensitivities of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates were also determined. The prevalence rate of Pseudomonas aeruginosa among clinical isolates in Ibb city was 25% (50/200) and the highest prevalence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa is found in the burn specimens with 50% (4/8) following by 42% from ear swab (42/100) and 4.347% from wound. The sensitivity testing was done to Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates (50/200) for investigate the sensitivity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to different types of antibiotics. The MDRPA isolates are determinant (3/50) by their resistances to all antibiotics that been used. Further tests done to determinant the effect of different camel's urine on MDRPA, The results showed the MDRPA sensitivity to camel urine. Also, MDRPA become susceptible to Azithromycin (AZM) antibiotic after 48-72 hours of treating with different camel's urine.

Abstract

Aim: To determine the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis and its associated risks factors among pregnant women and to assess the relation of some abnormalities and infection with Toxoplasmosis in Alkaeda province ibb city. Methodology: This prospective study was conducted at Alkaeda Hospital, over a 6 months period (March' 2016 to August' 2016). The study was approved by the Alrahma Medical Collage and written informed consents were obtained from the patients. The study group comprised pregnant women. Samples were tested for anti-Toxoplasma IgG and IgM antipodies by using OnSite Toxo IgG/IgM Rapid Test-Cassette. The On Site Toxo IgG/IgM Rapid Test is a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay for the simultaneous detection and differentiation of IgG and IgM anti-Toxoplasma Gondii (T. gondii) in human serum or plasma. This kit is intended to be used as a screening test and as an aid in the diagnosis of infection with T. gondii. Any reactive specimen with the On Site Toxo IgG/IgM Rapid Test must be confirmed with alternative testing method(s) and clinical findings. Results: In the present study found that 13 sample (13%) were seropositive and 87 cases (87%) were seronegative for Toxoplasma specific IgG antibody and 4 samples (4%) were seropositive and 96 samples (96%) were seronegative for toxoplasma specific IgM antibody. The distribution of positive serum samples among the different age groups for anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG and IgM showed that pregnant woman of the age group 23-30 years had the highest percentage (17.78 % and 6.68%) of positive results respectively. In present study of all cases,71 living in village which 4 (13.8%) cases of them were detected as IgG and 3(3.5) cases of them were detected as IgM. Of all cases 68 had history of contact with cat which 10(14.7) cases of them were detected as IgG positive and 4(5.9) cases of them were detected as IgM. In the present study showed that the seropositivity of Toxoplasma in relation to the number of times the antenatal woman experienced BOH revealed that the highest percentages (13.20%) of positivity was noted among women with a history of one BOH and seropositive cases were distributed in relation to the type of BOH revealed that Abortion (66.67%) was the commonest form of pregnancy wastage.
